i used to think that a foot of parchment was a lot and feel bad when harry potter characters were assigned to write that much

but then i realized the paper i write on is 8.5 by 11 inches.

so a foot of parchment is the equivalent of like, not even a page and a half of paper.

they complained SO MUCH about essays that were like

a page and a half

wtf guys

get your shit together

See I love this because you end up learning everything that the narrator knows! There’s not really an omnipresent voice to fill you in on everything that’s happening to the…

YOUR USE OF THE WORD “TEDIOUS” TO DESCRIBE THE HANDMAID’S TALE IS BREAKING MY HEART BECAUSE THAT IS THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF WHAT THIS BOOK IS IMO. We’re always on the precipice of learning new information I don’t understand THERE IS SOMETHING NEW LURKING BEHIND EVERY WATCHED CORNER CAN I JUST… It’s not why there is a new radical leadership but how those caught up in the resulting chaos make sense of their new lives living under it. I was indignant, I was upset, I wanted answers but more so I wanted our primary character to escape. Maybe that’s why we differ so much, because we had different expectations for the ending? IDK IDK

What’s so weird is that I understand why you didn’t like it, but we came to such different conclusions about the tactics Atwood used. I am not sure how this happened. I mean, it would make more since if we were maybe divided by Margaret Atwood’s work as a whole, but we both had the same reaction to The Blind Assassin, so this makes zero sense!

Q&A

saehae asked: the brief wondrous life of oscar wao, sense & sensibility, the night circus

The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao

haven’t heard of it | will check it out | will not read it | haven’t read it yetdidn’t like it | it was okay | a must read | this book is my life | LIFERUINER

I have been hearing so many things about Junot Diaz recently (mostly about This is How You Lose Her, but regardless) and he has been on my to read list for FOREVER. I’ve heard good things though!

Sense & Sensibility

haven’t heard of it | will check it out | will not read it | haven’t read it yetdidn’t like it | it was okay | a must read | this book is my life | LIFERUINER

SO MANY BOOKS TO READ, SO LITTLE TIME

The Night Circus

haven’t heard of it | will check it out | will not read it | haven’t read it yet | didn’t like it | it was okay | a must read | this book is my life | LIFERUINER

I’ve seen this book at the front table of Barnes & Noble whenever I go in, but I’ve never picked it up. I’ll check it out the next time I go in!

Q&A

indecisivevaljean asked: BOOKS HI OKAY Jane Eyre, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, and Of Human Bondage? And just because we haven't really talked about it NORWEGIAN WOOD.

Jane Eyre

haven’t heard of it | will check it out | will not read it | haven’t read it yet |didn’t like it | it was okay | a must read | this book is my life | LIFERUINER

I swear Jane Eyre has been on my “to-read” pile for at least five, six years but I always seem to find more pressing books to read. What’s worse is that most of my friends seem to adore it and I loved the most recent movie version (I know, I know, way to watch the movie and not read the book, BUT THERE WERE MORE PRESSING BOOKS, LIKE I SAID), so I’ll get to it eventually.

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan

haven’t heard of it | will check it out | will not read it | haven’t read it yet |didn’t like it | it was okay | a must read | this book is my life | LIFERUINER

I was honestly SO DISAPPOINTED after I had finished reading this book. This had been one of those books that had been on my to-read list for ages, and I had read a couple chapters in my junior year of high school, so I knew that I loved the prose and the subject matter was fascinating. I don’t know what went wrong. This isn’t to say that I didn’t like it - on the contrary, there were many aspects that I did enjoy and it was an easy book to be swept away with - I just found myself a little let down with how I didn’t emotionally respond towards the end.

Of Human Bondage

haven’t heard of it | will check it out | will not read it | haven’t read it yet |didn’t like it | it was okay | a must read | this book is my life | LIFERUINER

Again, on the to-read list. It just keeps getting knocked down the list by other books.

Norwegian Wood

haven’t heard of it | will check it out | will not read it | haven’t read it yet |didn’t like it | it was okay | a must read | this book is my life | LIFERUINER

I’m still not over this book tbh and it has left me raw and emotionally unavailable at the same time FUCK YOU HARUKI MURAKAMI actually no j/k don’t I love EVERYTHING YOU HAVE EVER PUBLISHED. I will say that I didn’t like it as much as The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle and obviously it doesn’t come close to one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITES After Dark… maybe I like After Dark so much because it was my first Murakami? But I love all of his books and After Dark just resonated with me in a really special way… IDK
